LOCAL HISTORY

In 1990, CASA was started in Seneca County by Judy Reiter, our current Executive Director; Judge Gerald Meyer, former Juvenile Court Judge of Seneca County, and other caring citizens of Seneca County. The first swear-in ceremony for the first three volunteers was held on August of 1990. By the end of December, 30 Seneca County children were represented by a CASA/GAL.

In 1992, Judy Reiter and Judge Brad Culbert, Juvenile Court Judge of Sandusky County began the implementation of a CASA program in Sandusky County. the Fremont office opened in August of 1994 with 13 trained volunteers and 51 children represented by a CASA/GAL.

In 1998, working with  now retired Judge Hunter, Juvenile Court Judge of Wyandot County, CASA expanded into Wyandot County. Seven volunteers were sworn in year representing 41 children. Our name was changed to CASA of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties, or CASA of SSW.

In 2001, the three county program represented the best interest of 370 children in our juvenile courts. We utilized the services of 60 active volunteers. Since 1990, more than 2500 children have been helped in our three county program.

To support the program and volunteers, We have an Executive Director, Assistant Director, Case Manager in Sandusky County, Case Manager in Wyandot County, a Public Relations administrator, and Office/Case Assistant.
